As the end of spring semester approaches, the CSM Student Senate is starting a new chapter.

The student senate, ASCSM, for the 2007-2008 year has officially been elected. The senate will be led by new President, Richael Young, former Student Trustee. Roger Nishimoto will continue in his role as Vice President.

Both roles will require many skills. When asked why he deserved to be elected, Nishimoto said, "My qualifications got me in. I have tons of experience and have a lot of involvement with everything on campus and all the major events, I'm one of the people on campus who knows all the ins and outs for whatever needs to be done."

As this school year draws to a close, the student senate is looking into the next school year with many plans.

"I think its fantastic. It's a challenging new year coming up," said Nishimoto. "There will be a lot of construction on campus and changes in services that the students can expect on campus, so I will be involved with a lot of the committee planning."

Nishimoto added, "I will be very concerned for the quality of life on campus for the students because there will be many changes. I would definitely like to see more integration between the students and faculty, and better communication between all three district colleges."

Matthew Kaidor, this year's ASCSM president plans to remain involved as an associate to the senate. "I wish the new senate the best of luck," said Kaidor. "It was a fun run, but now I hope to get a lot of studying done."
