It was a busy weekend for the polo 'Dogs. They were hosts of the Coast water polo conference championships, in which they placed fifth.
The girls began the tournament facing top tier Ohlone College. The girls ended up losing a close battle 9-7, but not before giving the Renegades big scares in the fourth period.
"In the fourth period we finished. Their coach described it as, 'We hit them in the stomach, they dropped their gloves, and we decided to just pummel them in the face,'" said Wright.
Though his team lost their first game of the tournament, the girls accomplished what Wright thought they could do and expressed his gratitude for his team's play.
"For four minutes CSM was the best team in the coast conference, bar none. We played 20 good minutes of water polo, and I'm happy we did play our best water polo at the end," said Wright about his team following the tournament.
Though Wright was happy with his team's overall performance, Captain Jessica Scott felt her team could've finished the season off better.
"I wish we did a lot better but I'm happy how we played. We had some really great games this season. I'm kind of sad the seasons over," said Scott.
CSM faced both DeAnza and Chabot later in the tournament, defeating both teams earning fifth place in the tournament.
"We showcased our talent in the later games. The team won for their captains," said Wright.
Along with winning fifth place, a number of players received honors in the tournament.
Jessica Scott received the honors of First Team Coast Conference player and 2nd Team All Norcal player.
Scott also posted 117 goals this season.
She ranked in the top three for total goals in the state.
Scott also had the highest goal per game average in state.
Samantha Seminoff received the honor of First Team Coast Conference player along with recording the CSM single season assist record with 55.
Third captain Alyse Goni also received the honor of 2nd Team Coast Conference player.
Kerry O'Shea though not a captain, received an honorable mention in the tournament.
"I guess the coaches like my defense," said O'Shea. Wright however was much more enthusiastic about O'shea's defensive performance.
"It's great the Kerry got an honorable mention," said Wright about O'Shea.
"She had to guard Ohlone's Ashley Kendall who was the tournaments MVP and just shut her down."
"Kerry guarded the best girls on the teams and just shut them down," said Wright.
