Two of the best Norcal conference football teams met Saturday Oct. 29, and the only team that could've beaten CSM at home that day did.

The Bulldogs lost in a heart breaking game to undefeated City College of San Francisco 41-40 in what was a game many thought CSM had little chance of winning.

It proved to be only their second conference loss, bringing their total record to 5-3.

Although Julian Edelman played a great game scoring four touchdowns tying the CSM record for touchdowns in a game, he was disappointed with the loss.
"I came out here and I had something to prove. We lost the game and we proved we could play up there with the best teams. But I felt we could've got that 'W'," said Edelman.

Edelman also expressed that he had particular motivation for beating the Rams, given that they didn't recruit him out of high school.

Edelman acknowledged that the San Francisco offense was a good one, but he still gave enormous credit to his team's defense.

"The team played great, the defense held a spectacular offense. But of course that teams offense is going to score," said Edelman after the game.

Gerald Thompson was one of the many members of the Bulldogs defense that stepped up and played great.
Thompson intercepted a pass from San Francisco's quarterback Jimmy Collins taking it 18 yards before letting his offense take over.

Though the Bulldogs would score off Thompson's interception, it wasn't enough to hold the lead on the Rams.

"We wanted this game bad; no one thought we would be even close with them," said Thompson after the emotional loss.

"There were a lot of doubters out there" said Thompson.

Though the Bulldogs didn't come out on top, Head Coach Larry Owens was still proud of his team and how they played.

"Every single member of the team put their heart into this week and their heart into the game, and I'm proud of them. So it's not just one guy that gets the credit," said Owens on his team's valiant effort.

Though he admitted that his team should've converted on some plays, he focused on the positives of his players.

"These players should be proud of everything they did. They lost on the scoreboards but they didn't lose in a lot of hearts and minds of people who watched the game. We had our shot and we just came up a little short."
