Going into Water Polo Coast Conference Finals first facing a tough West Valley squad, the Bulldogs knew they had a good chance of advancing.
Home court advantage and a determined proved otherwise as the Bulldogs valiantly lost to West Valley 14-9, eliminating CSM from the final four.
"We came out with a lot of energy, but we just couldn't click," said Water Polo Head Coach Randy Wright.
In the first half of play, West Valley came out strong and took advantage of CSM's mistakes.
CSM out scored their WVC in the fourth quarter, but he debt was too great.
"We were definitely disappointed, it wasn't a close loss," said Rocio Medina who along with teammate Anna Krejci received First Team All Coast Conference Honors. "It was their home and it came down to who wanted it more, and I hate to say it, but they proved that they wanted it more."
"Whoever plays with the most energy and the most emotion is going to win. When you have 16 turnovers and 12 missed shot, your not putting yourself in a position to win," said Wright.
Finishing in fifth place and the loss proving to be disappointing, there were several players who received honors from the tournament. Freshmen player Lily Arnaudo, whose CSM's water polo career will end this year with her transferring to UC Davis, received Second Team All Coast Conference Honors. Honorable Mention Honors went to the southpaw Megan Shields and to veteran player Kerry O'Shea.
"It was a great season," said Medina. "I made a lot of friends, lots for a life time. I know it sounds corny, but it's true."
