As Halloween approaches, the ASCSM have geared up to celebrate with festive events and activities.

"ASCSM is really looking forward for all to participate and enjoy this event. This is really put together for the students, by the students," said Sebastian Grillo, student senator.

Oktoberfest kicks off on Monday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the upper pond near the library and will run through Thursday, Oct. 25.

The three day event will feature games, contests, live entertainment and food, said Chris Eden, in the student activities office.

Some of the competitions students and faculty will be able to participate in are pie eating and marshmallow stuffing contests.

There will also be sporting competitions, such as an obstacle race, a rock climbing contest, basketball contest, and an inflatable boat rowing race, where students will race around the pond.

In addition to contests which test student's eating abilities and athletic skills, there will also be a trivia contest, testing knowledge about music.

Oktoberfest will also be featuring a car show which will recognize the "most pimpest" and "hella hooptee" car. The winner of each category will receive $50 dollars.

"It's going to be the coolest thing ever," said Jessica Huffman, assistant in the student activities office.

After Oktoberfest is all said and done, the ASCSM will be throwing another event a week later on Oct. 31 for Halloween.

This event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., also at the upper pond near the library. On Halloween, there will be games, live entertainment, as well as a costume contest.

"We just really want to have fun. We want an active campus. Mid terms are approaching and this is a great way to relieve stress," said Eden.

In addition to the costume contest, there will also be a Haunted House, set up in the Gallery Room, in Bldg. 5. The ASCSM has allocated $1,000 to the possible two-story fright fest, said Eden.

All Halloween events are free and open to the public. For activity days and times, see Campus Briefs, located in the inside cover of this edition of the San Matean.
