If you are trick or treating on Halloween, don't forget to check out the main cafeteria because you might find more useful "treats" than candies there.

The health center is holding their first annual fall health fair on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main cafeteria in Bldg. 5.

Students will be able to get health services and advice from different companies and agencies, free hot pretzels, popcorn and yogurt, and a chance to win prizes.

"We want the students to go up to the booths and talk to the health professionals," said Gloria D'Ambra, health fair co-coordinator, and office assistant II in the health center.

Health services include blood sugar testing and flu shots by student nurses, massage therapy and yoga.

"About 12 students and one instructor will be administrating flu vaccinations, blood pressure tests and glucose test," said Jane McAteer, nursing advisor.

D'mbra along with Sharon Bartels, health services coordinator have invited health professionals from around the Bay Area to attend. Of the 30 tables set up for the fair, some will be occupied by 24 Hour Fitness, Gold's Gym, Fitness19, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Blood Centers of the Pacific, Seton Hospital, Asian American Recovery Services and San Mateo County Public Health.

There will also be a blood drive during the health fair, which will be open in the south cafeteria, said D'Ambra.

Information on breast cancer, alcohol and drug programs, pandemic flu, foot care and HIV will also be provided at the fair, said the health center.

Students will receive a coin every time they go up to an information booth; once they collect 10 coins, they get a ticket to enter a drawing to win a prize.

"We still haven't decided on the prizes yet, but we hope this will be fun and encourage the students to come," said D'Ambra.
