Issue date: 10/22/07 Section: News
This week, CSM along with Skyline and Cañada are all awaiting a visit from their peers as the accreditation process begins.

Accreditation happens every six years, and CSM has been working to get ready for the accreditation team which will be on campus from Oct. 22-25.

The past two years, CSM has been collecting date on itself and has culminated in a self study that has evaluated every aspect of its institution based on four key accreditation standards that the Western Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation commission outlines.

The four standards CSM has addressed in the 360 page self study are Standard I: Institutional Mission and Effectiveness, Standard II: Student Learning Programs and Services, Standard III: Resources and Standard IV: Leadership and Governance.

CSM faculty along with the administration, classified staff and students all helped in the completion of the self study evaluation process that took a in depth look at all aspects of college life on campus ranging from financial resources to student support services, from faculty employment to diversity on campus.

"It begins at the campus when CSM evaluates itself, it's followed by further peer review by the visiting team and third level of peer review when commission reviews the college and takes the action at the end of January 2008," said Jack Pond, vice president for Team Operation and Community.

Skyline and Cañada will also undergo an accreditation visit this week with both schools having their own unique self studies for the teams to look over on their respective campuses.

The WASC teams visiting each campus will consist of nine to 10 individuals, which will be observing what goes on at each school for four days.

The team will mostly be looking at each schools self study binder, but they will also take time to interview students and faculty, said Valerie Anderson, member of the accreditation steering committee, and president's office coordinator at CSM.
