About 120 future journalists invaded the CSM campus on Oct. 5 to attend the first annual San Francisco Peninsula High School Journalism Boot Camp.

The event, hosted by the CSM journalism program and the San Francisco Peninsula Press Club, welcomed students from 13 high schools from around the Bay Area.

Twenty media professionals hosted 16 different workshops on a variety of topics including:digital photography, newspaper design, headline writing, selling advertising, multimedia audio, as well a presentation on how to motivate a news staff.

The San Matean also led an interactive workshop which discussed the transition to college newspapering from a high school level curriculum.

"I thought that the boot camp was a really great idea and hopefully we inspired some students to continue pursuing their journalism careers," said Danny Castro, editor of the San Matean.
