The Lady 'Dogs continued their dominance, placing sixth overall, and first among NorCal teams, when they competed against their toughest challenge of the season, facing the heavily favored competition of Southern California at the Santa Barbara Invitational on Oct. 13.

CSM was led by their 'big three' - Caitlin Roake continued to show why she is the top women's runner in NorCal, leading the way for CSM yet again placing sixth individually with a time of 20:03 and averaging 6:41 per mile. Kim Moyer placed 26 individually and second among the Lady Bulldogs, with a time of 21:25, followed by Stephanie Maher, who had her best race of the season so far, placing 33 and finishing 18 seconds after Moyer.

"It was one of my best races," said Maher. "Because I was calm at the beginning of the race. Overall I think the team will do good at Conference and NorCal finals."

The three-mile course was adventurous to say the least. The runners had to run on all four of the major terrains of Cross Country, combining a mile on pavement, a seaweed infested sandy beach, a steep dirt hill, and finishing on a flat field of grass.

The team has two runners in the top 15 in NorCal. In addition to having the top runner, Moyer is now ranked 14 individually in the division. The Lady 'Dogs are ranked second overall in NorCal, trailing only American River, and it appears they have the State Meet on their minds.

"We should have four in the top ten at Conference," said Head Coach Joe Mangan. "We expect to be (at the State Meet) at the end."

The team's next meet is the Coast Conference Meet at Toro Park in Salinas on Oct. 24, and with two more races to go, they appear to show no signs of slowing down.

"Coast Conference will be a tough race," said CSM runner Ashley Crittendon. "But I plan on fighting until the very end so that I don't regret putting in all of that work during the season."
