The Bulldogs found themselves in trouble in the latter stages of the first half, being outscored 5-0 in the second quarter alone.
"When you play the top team you can't make mistakes," said CSM Women's Water Polo Head Coach Randy Wright. "In the second quarter we missed shots and they forced turnovers, four of their five goals in the period were in transition off our mistakes."
The Bulldogs played a solid second half, but the effort wasn't enough to advance to the championship game.
"We played a solid second half, they outscored us 4-3. Three strong quarters won't get it done when you play a top team. We did play with great energy, Tiffany Chan really showed why she is a top player in the Conference."
Earning a spot to play in the Third place game, CSM dropped a close 7-5 loss to rival Ohlone College, placing fourth in Coast Conference.
"We played a much more competitive game than we did the first time. They jumped out early, we responded and had a great chance to tie in the final minute, it was that close," said Wirght.
Despite the back-to-back losses, Wright was content with how the Bulldogs season went.
"We had lost the 4/5 game the past 3 years. Even with tough losses today, it really was a good season and great for the program to play in the conference final four," he said.
