While Spring Break means a week of beaches and cocktails for some college students, it means a week of boredom for others.
From March 17th through 21st, CSM students will celebrating the long time tradition of Spring Break.
Although "Spring Break" comes with a huge association to Cancun vacations, or warm beach getaways, not everyone will be hitting the sand.
"Normally I try to get out of town. I think warm, tan, and tropical drinks when I think of Spring Break. Unfortunately, I wont be going anywhere this year," said Brittany Boone, student.
While vacation isn't possible for all, students, like Boone, can enjoy local haunts and activities.
CSM has a wide variety of students; some students are under age, while others are in their prime, 21. Some students are even working full time and providing for a family. No matter what age group, there is plenty of things to do locally.
If your 'legally of age' challenged, over 21, or hanging with your family all week, head to Santa Cruz for fun in the sun. Enjoy the sun and local restaurants, as well as other various activities. A few minutes north of Santa Cruz is Capitola, known also for it's sunny beaches and local eateries.
"There's tons of things to do in Santa Cruz, great for surfing and swimming in the ocean," said Danielle Smith. " You might actually get a tan, a rarity for Northern California."
Santa Cruz and Capitola aren't the only places with fun and different activities to do, regardless of your age. Head to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and go paddle or row boating at Stole Lake for an interesting date, or fun with friends.
For those CSM students who are 21 or over, downtown San Mateo and Burlingame will be crowded with San Mateo residents, coming home from other four-year colleges.
"Downtown is crackin during Spring Break. Everyone and their mom is there," said Tadashi Oto, student.
Between Second and Fourth Avenue, lies Glow, a Bar/Lounge, O' Neil's, a popular Irish Pub, and McGoverns, another very popular Irish Pub.
In addition to downtown San Mateo nightlife, is Burlingame. Located just off Burlingame
Avenue is Vinyl Room, a bar and lounge with different DJ's every night.
When mentioning Burlingame bars, no one can forget about Alibi; a mellow 'neighborhood' bar, with pool tables as well as a very friendly crowd.
"B-town, the only place worth going around here if you aren't going to Mexico," said Emily Gamble, student.
For those CSM students who haven't planned any tropical getaways but still want to get out of town for a day or two, head to Napa, California's most popular wine country.
"Spring Break is what you make of it," said Casey Johnson, student.
